A gift for someone who already owns a diffuser

26 September 2026 · PURRA

Mains tendant un petit paquet rayé noué d'un ruban vert d'eau, le geste du cadeau pour quelqu'un qui a déjà un diffuseur

For a gift aimed at someone who already owns a diffuser, the safest answer is the refill: the 100 ml Signature Refill lasts 625 operating hours on the gentlest setting, or around 78 days at eight hours of diffusion per day, and it screws onto the larger models in the range.

A scent refill is a concentrated fine perfumery composition, with no alcohol and no added water, which the device atomises into micro-droplets. That is what makes it a gift apart: it is not an accessory, it is the content of the very object the person already uses. One real difficulty remains, and this article deals with it first: you often have no idea which device they own.

Key points:

  • Two formats exist and they are not interchangeable: the 10 ml glass bottle for the C30, the 100 ml canister for the larger models.
  • A 100 ml refill lasts 625 operating hours on setting I, 400 on setting II and 200 on setting III, or around 78, 50 and 25 days at eight hours of diffusion per day.
  • A 10 ml bottle lasts 333 operating hours on the gentlest setting, or around six weeks at those same eight hours per day.
  • When you do not know which device the person owns, the Signature Set of six 10 ml bottles is the fallback, because it leaves the choice of scent to them.
  • Both formats are €24.90, and shipping is free from €49 of purchase to mainland France, Switzerland and Monaco.

What do you give someone who already owns a diffuser?

Give what gets used up rather than a second device. Someone already equipped does not need another diffuser, they need what makes it work: a scent refill, in a fragrance they have not tried yet. The gift is useful that same evening.

The same reasoning applies to the person who already has everything: what is missing is never the object, it is renewed use of the object. A new scent changes the mood of a room without adding anything to a shelf, which is the opposite of a gift that takes up space.

PURRA, a French brand of cold nebulisation fragrance diffusers, builds its range on that principle: four aluminium diffusers you refill, and six scent refills that move between them according to format. Compatibility is set out in detail in our guide to refills.

The 10 ml frosted glass bottle is the C30 format: it screws onto the device, it is never decanted.

How do you work out the right refill format without asking?

You only need to recognise the size of the device, and that is visible in a photo or in memory. A portable diffuser 14 cm tall, the kind taken into a car, takes 10 ml bottles. A living room device or a floor-standing column takes the 100 ml canister.

The compatibility rule is simple and admits no exception: the 100 ml Signature Refill screws onto the PURRA X300S and G300, while the C30 uses the 10 ml format and only that one. No other liquid belongs in a nebulising diffuser, and never water.

If doubt remains, there is an elegant way out that avoids an interrogation: the Signature Set. It brings the six scents together in 10 ml bottles, it stands as a gift in itself, and the recipient chooses what to open first. That is also the answer reached in our guide to choosing a diffuser as a gift when the information is missing.

The 100 ml refill or the set of six bottles: which one to give?

The 100 ml refill is for when you know, the set is for when you are guessing. The first is a precise gesture, for someone whose device and taste you know; the second hands the decision to the recipient, which is exactly right when you are torn between two olfactory families.

There is a second, less obvious difference. The set arrives in a matt black case with fitted foam, so it can be handed over as it is. The 100 ml refill is a brushed aluminium canister 11.5 cm tall: a handsome object, but one that calls for wrapping, and it is better to know that before ordering.

Six scents exist in both formats: Brise Marine, Bois Envoûtant, Éclat d'Agrumes, Brume de Cologne, Musc Blanc and Éclat de Jasmin. To narrow the choice when the room is known, the case of the kitchen shows nicely how the setting rules out half the options.

Changing a refill happens at the top of the device, cap lifted, bottle screwed in as far as it goes: no tool, no decanting.

How long does this gift last?

A 100 ml refill lasts 625 operating hours on setting I, 400 hours on setting II and 200 hours on setting III, or around 78, 50 and 25 days at eight hours of diffusion per day. That is the duration stated by the manufacturer, converted into a realistic daily pattern.

The arithmetic is worth saying out loud, because it is what makes the gift defensible. On that basis of eight hours a day, the device uses 0.16 ml per operating hour on the gentlest setting. The set, for its part, adds up to 1,998 hours across its six bottles, or around eight months on the same basis.

In other words, a €24.90 gift accompanies the person's daily life for around 78 days on that basis of eight hours a day, then renews itself. That is the definition of a useful gift, and it is what separates it from an object put away once thanks have been said.

How do you present a refill so that it reads as a real gift?

A refill on its own looks modest if handed over bare, and generous if given a context. The simplest method is to pair it with what the person would not buy again for themselves: a scent they would not have chosen, or a second format for another room in the house.

On the practical side, dispatch happens within 24 to 48 hours, after which allow 2 to 4 days of delivery within mainland France. Shipping is free from €49 of purchase to mainland France, Switzerland and Monaco, a threshold two refills reach. For the rest, ordinary law applies: according to the French public administration portal service-public.gouv.fr, a distance buyer has a withdrawal period of 14 days running from the day after the goods are received.

One last point, often forgotten: a refill that has already been opened cannot be taken back, for hygiene reasons. The choice of scent is therefore made before purchase, which is one more argument for the set when you are sure of nothing. The same trade-off comes back in equipping a vehicle fleet, where refills are ordered in batches without knowing each driver's taste.

Frequently asked questions

When should a Christmas gift be ordered to arrive in time?

Orders leave within 24 to 48 hours, after which allow 2 to 4 days of delivery within mainland France and 2 to 5 days to Switzerland and Monaco. Adding the two together, an order placed a week before the date arrives comfortably, even in the busy season.

Ordering earlier has a second advantage: the 14-day withdrawal period runs from receipt, not from the celebration. A gift received in mid-December therefore leaves time to change your mind before handing it over, which a parcel arriving the evening before no longer allows.

What do you give someone who has moved far away?

Something light, unbreakable and requiring no installation. A 100 ml scent refill weighs little, fits in a padded envelope, and it is useful straight away if the person already has their device. The Signature Set of six 10 ml bottles plays the same role for owners of the PURRA C30.

The constraint of a gift sent at a distance is not transport, it is the absence of context: nobody is there to explain the object. A consumable solves that, since it is used without instructions and asks for neither space nor settings in the new home.

Can the diffuser be left running for a whole evening?

Yes, and the timer is made for it: four positions on the X300S and the G300, 1 h, 2 h, 4 h or 8 h, and three positions on the C30, 1 h, 8 h or 24 h. An evening of 4 hours therefore matches a dedicated position, with nothing to think about.

On consumption, four hours of diffusion amount to half a day in the sense of the eight hours per day basis we use for all our durations. A 100 ml refill lasting 625 operating hours on the gentlest setting therefore amounts to around 156 evenings of four hours.

What should you do if the parcel arrives damaged?

Write to contact@purra.fr, which replies within 24 to 48 working hours, describing the state of the parcel. The 14-day right of withdrawal from receipt remains open alongside, for an unused device in its original packaging, with return postage payable by the buyer.

The 2-year legal guarantee of conformity applies in addition, as does the guarantee against hidden defects, and registering the product is not a condition. A refill that has already been opened, however, cannot be taken back for hygiene reasons: that is the one exception to know about.

Do you need an account to place an order?

No, an order can be placed without an account. A customer account exists to track orders and store addresses, nothing more: no pricing advantage and no loyalty scheme are attached to it. The payment methods accepted are bank card, Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

For a gift, an account does have one practical benefit: the recipient's delivery address stays saved, which spares you retyping it the following year. It is a convenience, never an obligation.

Does a 100 ml refill screw straight onto the device?

Yes, it screws straight on, there is nothing to decant. The brushed aluminium canister of 11.5 cm replaces the previous bottle on the X300S and the G300, with the device switched off and the bottle screwed in as far as it goes. The C30 uses the 10 ml format and only that one.

That mechanism explains why a refill makes a good gift: it calls for no tool, no funnel and no messy handling. You unscrew the old bottle and screw on the new one, which takes a few seconds and requires no particular skill.

To give the scent missing from a device already in place, the 100 ml Signature Refill remains the most direct gift.
